Founded by Nicole Akers and Spencer Bouhadir, Substance SKN was born from the intersection of scientific innovation and consumer insight. Together, we asked a simple but powerful question:

For Nicole, the journey began with consumers.
After more than twenty years leading marketing and brand strategy for some of the world's most recognized beauty companies, including prestige skincare, luxury beauty, and physician-dispensed brands, Nicole developed a deep understanding of what consumers truly want from skincare: products that work, ingredients they can trust, and regimens customized to consumers unique needs and goals.
Spencer Bouhadir
For Spencer, the journey began in the laboratory.
With more than a decade of experience in biotechnology, formulation science, drug development, and patented innovation, Spencer has dedicated his career to understanding how biology influences skin health. His work spans advanced delivery systems, regenerative technologies, peptides, and next-generation active ingredients designed to support healthier skin function
